Why do we need a new direction?

Over the past decade most of our new policy thinking has come out of conservative think tanks both here and overseas. These organizations have been cashed up and very effective. Catalyst estimates that in one year, the two largest conservative think tanks in Australia produced 8 magazines, contributed hundreds of published media pieces and dozens of policy/issues papers as well as making submissions to government, holding conferences and speaking events.

This output is reflected in today’s public policy thinking.

Of course in a democracy all views are encouraged and this can be a healthy sign. But it also suggests that there is a vast space for new thinking.

Catalyst will work with others to occupy this space.
