National Public Education Forum

Read papers and resources from this important conference organised by Australian Council for State School Organisations (ACSSO), Australian Education Union (AEU), Australian Government Primary Principals Association (AGPPA) and Australian Secondary Principals Association (ASPA) held on 27th & 28th March 2009. The forum takes a frank look at the future for public education in the current political climate and examines the social implications of Australia's unusual education funding system.

For Our Future - Public Education Campaign

The Australian Education Union has launched a campaign to raise the level of federal government funding of public schools. The federal government currently spends $1051 per public school student compared with $4515 per private school student. For more information or to get involved go to www.forourfuture.org.au

Rebuilding Public Schools 2020 - Investment targets

The case for investing heavily in Australian public schools is now very strong. Apart from the intrinsic returns that can be generated by these investments, there is an immense gap in the resources available to public schools compared to the private sector.

GFC sees shift back to Public Education

Almost 70% of Australian school age children attend public schools. With the current economic situation looking less optomistic by the day there is already reports of significant numbers of private school students moving back to the public sector. (SMH 1 Nov 2008)
